In oktober vindt de vijftiende editie van Stereopsia Europe plaats. Dit forum brengt experts en geïnteresseerden samen rond XR (Extended Reality) en immersieve technologieën. Mrs. Heli Tiirmaa-Klaar will discuss “Achieving Cyber Stability: Successes and Challenges,” analyzing the efforts of governments, the private sector, and academia to create a secure and trusted cyberspace. The intervention will explore lessons learned from successes and the challenges that remain, emphasizing the role of all stakeholders in building a resilient cyber future.
Dr. Claudia Peersman will present her recent research, “Towards a Human-centred Framework for Evaluating Online Child Protection Tools.” The discussion will shed light on the challenges in protecting children online, focusing on assessing the performance of automated tools with a human-centered perspective, including Human Rights impact, security, fairness, accountability, and disputability.
Two engaging panel discussions will feature representatives from various sectors sharing their organizations’ solutions for positive change. The first panel, “Women in Cyber: (Re)Skilling to empower,” will explore targeted skilling, reskilling, and upskilling to accelerate gender diversity. The second panel, “Women in Cyber: An economic imperative,” will delve into the obstacles hindering diversity and inclusion and strategies to overcome them.

Women4Cyber Belgium – Cyber Resilience: from policy to process to technology
The next experience-sharing event of Women4Cyber Belgium is scheduled to take place on June 8th, 2023, at the premises of P&V Insurance in Brussels.
It will feature Despina Spanou, who will give an inspirational speech on her personal perspective of why and how to build a career in cybersecurity policy. Despina is Head of Cabinet for EU Commissioner Margaritis Schinas and has built an impressive career in policymaking, more particularly in the cybersecurity field.
The keynote will be followed by a roundtable discussion on the theme: ‘Cyber resilience: from policy to process to technology’, moderated by Soultana Ellinidou, Cyber Security Manager at Thales Group Belgium.
In addition, Helene Bruyninckx, Researcher at the Royal Military Academy and the ULB, will speak about the results of a recent research project in cybersecurity.

With the COVID pandemic’s aftermath still being felt across our continent, Russia’s conflict in Ukraine is adding further strain to both the global economy and European solidarity. Additionally, the scorching summer of 2022 has demonstrated the consequences of neglecting the climate crisis. However, digital technologies can be a key tool in addressing these interconnected issues. The next two years leading up to the 2024 European elections will be a crucial period for enhancing Europe’s economy through innovation and utilizing digital technology to decrease emissions. Equally important is leveraging technology to fortify our digital resilience against hybrid threats, in partnership with like-minded allies. The present moment demands action.
On International Women’s Day, Digitalcity.brussels will host a webinar to get a conversation on the role of women in IT and how to close the gender gap.
